Jay has been a venture capitalist and technology investor for 40 years. He and Rick Kimball co-founded TCV in 1995. Since that time, TCV has raised over $17 billion in capital and emerged as a leading provider of growth capital to technology companies. In addition to his investment activities, Hoag is also a member of TCV’s Executive Committee, which oversees general management of the firm and its funds. Prior to TCV, Jay was a Managing Director at Chancellor Capital Management, where he spent more than 12 years as a technology-focused venture capitalist and fund manager. He has been involved in a large number of technology investments, including Actuate Software, Ariba, Altiris (acquired by Symantec), BlueCoat Systems (formerly CacheFlow), C|NET, Encompass (acquired by Yahoo!), Electronic Arts, EXE Technologies (acquired by SSA Global), Expedia, Facebook, Fandango (acquired by Comcast), Groupon, Netflix, ONYX Software, Prodege (parent company of Swagbucks), RealNetworks, SpringStreet (acquired by Homestore.com), TechTarget, Vacationspot.com (acquired by Expedia), Viant (acquired by iXL), and Zillow. He is currently on the board of directors of Netflix, Peloton, TripAdvisor, and Zillow.
