Partner
and access,
Jeffrey Battershall works with a wide range of international business clients, including health care institutions, automobile dealers, large publicly traded and smaller privately owned companies – in the areas of contracts, general corporate law, transactions, mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, licensing and distribution arrangements. His clients distribute products in more than 180 countries, and they rely on Jeff to help keep their companies moving forward. The only thing Jeff enjoys more than problem-solving is growing and sustaining personal relationships with his clients. He has worked with one such client – a leader in Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s research, The Van Andel Institute – for more than a decade. In consultation with senior Institute staff, Jeff has facilitated research collaborations, negotiated licenses for genomic research software and advised on governance, compliance and other important corporate matters. He served as the Institute’s chief legal officer for two years. Jeff’s most memorable matters have also been the most multi-faceted – such as joint ventures that required formation, organization, the creation of corporate documents and operating and medical agreements, the resolution of real estate and construction issues, zoning litigation, licensing, governance and board meetings. “It is fascinating and rewarding to watch something be constructed from the ground up, beginning with that first literal or figurative brick, and to know you played a part.” Corporate matters, acquisitions and contractual arrangements are often both difficult and highly sensitive, and Jeff lends particular value and sage judgment in this context. In 2020, his colleagues and practice peers recognized him as a “Go To Business Lawyer,” in Michigan Lawyers Weekly.
