Bio

A seasoned corporate attorney who specializes in mergers and acquisitions, Gregory Schmidt takes a pragmatic approach when helping clients merge, acquire or divest business assets, or negotiate their contracts. While his international practice is not industry specific, in the energy space alone he has completed the purchase of solar and wind farms, negotiated the Development Asset Acquisition Agreement to facilitate other renewable energy projects, and negotiated power purchase agreements, supply and other contracts between energy suppliers, producers and consumers. He has also done numerous deals in the pharmaceutical, furniture, software and electrical controls and supplies industries. A significant portion of Greg’s client base is “serial acquirers”—companies whose business model includes regular acquisitions, and whose operations and risk tolerance he knows so well that they often rely upon him to make the first cut. Other clients may be less familiar with the process, requiring more guidance and education when they encounter a liquidity event. Wherever clients are on the spectrum and whatever the scenario, Greg’s hundreds of deals allow him to offer both clear vision and value. Greg appreciates both the content and cadence of corporate transactional work. Whether he’s negotiating joint ventures, reorganizing a client before a sale, assessing how changing tax legislation and structures may drive or stall a deal, or factoring in an unforgiven PPP loan into an acquisition, Greg likens his role to that of a quarterback. He serves as both leader and teammate—he spots issues and opportunities quickly, involves the needed specialists, and at all times keeps the ball moving forward.
