Werner Federico Ahlers is a partner in Sullivan & Cromwell’s Mergers & Acquisitions and Finance & Restructuring Groups whose principal responsibilities include coordination of the Firm’s practice in Latin America. Werner advises public and private companies, private equity investors and sovereign clients from around the world on a wide range of cross-border matters, including M&A transactions, joint ventures, special situations and structures, corporate, sovereign and project financings and crisis management mandates. He has particular experience advising strategic and financial investors in investments in countries across Latin America in the energy, natural resources, technology and infrastructure sectors, as well as in highly regulated industries, including telecommunications, healthcare and financial services. Werner is also a leader in pro bono service on behalf of Firm clients and several non-profit organizations. Werner serves as co-chair of S&C’s Diversity Committee, co-coordinator of the Firm’s Visiting Lawyer’s Program and is one of S&C’s hiring partners. He serves on the executive committee, as chair of the Latin America Sub-Committee, of the Cyrus R. Vance Center for International Justice and as co-editor for “The Guide to Corporate Crisis Management,” published by Latin Lawyer. Werner is a native speaker of Spanish and is proficient in Portuguese. Werner’s practice and work on various noteworthy matters have been regularly recognized by The American Lawyer, Chambers (Global, USA and Latin America), The Legal 500, Law360, M&A Advisor, Latin Lawyer and a number of other publications and organizations.
