Chad Marriott leads the firm’s wind energy subgroup and serves as counsel to sponsors, owners, and investors in the development, sale, acquisition, and financing of renewable generation projects throughout the United States. In the past few years, Chad has worked heavily in the wind, solar, and battery energy storage spaces, serving as sponsor’s counsel in the negotiation of more than $6 billion in tax equity and separate cash equity investments in approximately 4.5 GW of renewable energy projects across the United States. Separately, Chad has led teams advising on the acquisition of historic wind assets for repowering and served as lead counsel on the acquisition of both operational and development-stage wind, solar, and battery energy storage projects in the United States and Canada. Chad has been recognized as one of “America’s Leading Lawyers for Business” (USA) by Chambers Global and (USA—Nationwide) by Chambers USA for his work in the firm’s nationally ranked Renewables & Alternative Energy practice. In addition, Chad is included in The Best Lawyers in America® (Energy Law), 2023–2024, and was named to A Word About Wind’s Top 100 Legal Power List 2020, a list of the 100 most influential lawyers working globally on the financing of wind energy projects. His broad experience in finance, M&A, and state and federal utility regulation has proven valuable to clients at the various stages of project development, construction, operation, and repowering.
