Bio

Matthew Lam is a co-founding partner and managing partner of Nixon Peabody CWL. He is also a partner of the Corporate Department and China Practice Group. He has extensive experience working on corporate and commercial matters, cross-border transactions, corporate finance, project finance, intellectual property litigation and trademark protection in Hong Kong and mainland China. His work also involves government relations and public policy. I focus on corporate finance and project finance, particularly in cross-border transactions. Since I completed my training as a solicitor with Reed Smith Richards Butler in 1998, I have been focusing on corporate and commercial work in Hong Kong and mainland China. As the Standing Committee Member of the Shanghai Committee of Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference in China and the Honorary Consul of Estonia in Hong Kong, I am familiar with the business culture, laws and regulations between Hong Kong, mainland China and other countries, which enables me to assist my clients with their business development particularly in cross-border transactions. As the legal counsel and executive director of listed companies for 20 years, I have extensive legal experience in advising public companies listed on the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited on compliance and good corporate governance practice, initial public offers of shares in listed companies and subsequent raising of capital and corporate restructuring which involves government relations and public policy. As the Legal Counsel of Crocodile Garments Limited, a retail company in China, I have relevant experience in handling trademark protection and intellectual property litigation in Hong Kong and mainland China.
