Paul de Bernier serves as global co-leader of Mayer Brown’s Corporate & Securities practice. Paul is active across a range of industries, transactions and technologies, including transition energy, infrastructure, critical minerals, financial services and healthcare. Paul’s practice focuses on M&A, private equity, venture capital and other corporate securities transactions. He also advises management and boards on corporate governance, risk management and regulatory matters. Paul has served for many years as external counsel to US-listed companies on governance, corporate and securities and financial regulation and other compliance matters. Paul is particularly experienced in cross-border transactions and advising clients with international operations, including non-US clients making acquisitions, minority investments, raising capital or setting up operations in the US. Paul spent seven years in Mayer Brown’s London office, where he led the US M&A and Capital Markets desks, and works extensively with our offices in Europe, Asia and Latin America. Paul serves as co-chair of our India practice, is our main contact for Healthcare M&A and is an active member of our Financial Services, Transition Energy/Infrastructure, Korea and Japan practices. Paul has taught international business transactions, corporate finance, venture capital and business associations classes at Stanford University, USC Gould School of Law and USC Lusk Center for Real Estate, in addition to teaching continuing professional legal education courses both at the firm and for external organizations such as BARBRI/Strafford. Most recently, Paul was a visiting lecturer teaching “US Financial Regulation” at King’s College Law School (University of London). Paul has lived for extensive periods in India, the UK and the US, and is fluent in Hindi and conversant in French.
