Matt Mckinney practice focuses on structuring and negotiating complex commercial and technology transactions and representing companies in intellectual property and technology-related matters. Matt is experienced with a wide range of contracts regarding the commercialization and protection of intellectual property including: software, content, patent and trademark licenses, software as a service (SaaS) agreements, software development agreements, research and development agreements, non-disclosure agreements, and employee invention assignment agreements. Matt also counsels clients on commercial and strategic contracts, such as partnership agreements, basic employment agreements, reseller/distribution agreements, joint development agreements, customer agreements, professional services agreements, and supply agreements. Additionally, Matt advises clients regarding data privacy and security issues. For many clients, Matt acts as the company’s primary outside legal counsel. Matt represents businesses across the spectrum of a company’s life-cycle, from start-up phase all the way to established Fortune 500 companies. Prior to joining KO, Matt practiced at Cooley LLP and co-founded Stack McKinney Law Group. Before law school, Matt taught English and math for two years in Lesotho, Africa as a volunteer with the United States Peace Corps. Matt received a BA in economics from Grinnell College, and earned his J.D. from the University of Iowa College of Law in 2002 with distinction. Matt serves on the Board of Directors of Intercambio Uniting Communities, and the St. Vrain Football Club.
