Bio

Scott Dettmer retired from the Firm and is now Partner Emeritus. Scott was a founding partner of our firm. His practice focused on the representation of fast-growing private and public companies in the technology and life sciences industries. He also represented a wide range of venture funds and growth equity funds in their investment transactions. He has extensive experience in private and public offerings, mergers and acquisitions, corporate partnering, strategic alliances, and corporate governance. Scott is listed as one of the top IT and venture lawyers in the Global Counsel 3000, Chambers' The World's Leading Lawyers, and The Best Lawyers in America, and by San Jose Magazine and San Francisco Magazine as one of the top securities lawyers in Silicon Valley. Scott was chosen as one of the Twelve Dealmakers of the Year by The American Lawyer in 1998, was named Lawyer of the Year in San Francisco by The Best Lawyers in America for venture capital in 2016 and for leveraged buyouts and private equity in 2018, and is listed as one of the 500 attorneys on Legal 500's Hall of Fame in the United States. Scott received his J.D. from the University of Southern California, where he graduated Order of the Coif, was the Executive Editor of The Computer Law Journal, and was a member of the Southern California Law Review. He earned his B.A. from the University of California at Santa Barbara. Scott was a member of the Board of Directors of KQED, the Northern California public media station, from 2008 through 2015, and served as a member of the Board’s nominating committee to 2020.
