Bio

​David Sinak is a tax partner in Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher’s Dallas office. He focuses on federal income taxation of corporations, partnerships, limited liability companies, individuals, and investment securities, and on Texas franchise taxation. His clients range from publicly traded corporations, to closely held companies, to individuals. He has been involved in tax planning for corporate and partnership acquisitions, financings, and solvent and insolvent restructurings in a wide variety of industries, including tax free spin-offs, other tax free corporate reorganizations, partnership structuring and reorganizations, mergers, purchases of stock and assets, finance leases, and debt and equity offerings including private placements. Consistently recognized by Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business, The Best Lawyers in America® (1991-2019), and Texas Super Lawyer for tax law, Mr. Sinak has significant experience with the uses of and limitations on net operating losses, consolidated return planning, partnership allocation and debt issues, oil and gas issues, stock options and other employee compensation matters, charitable giving and charitable organizations. He also has experience in obtaining private letter rulings from the Internal Revenue Service, handling cases through the Internal Revenue Service administrative appeals process, and in litigating tax disputes in the federal courts. Mr. Sinak received his J.D. degree cum laude from Boston College of Law School in 1979, where he served as Articles Editor for the Boston College Law Review. He received his B.A in Economics cum laude from the University of Notre Dame in 1975, and attended the London School of Economics as a graduate student in 1975-76. Mr. Sinak is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the American Bar Association and the Dallas Bar Association. He is admitted to practice in the U.S. Tax Court, U.S. Court of Federal Claims, U.S. Federal District Court, Northern District of Texas, and the U.S. Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit.
