Dr. Oliver Massmann is an International Attorney at Law and a Financial Accountant and Auditor. Dr. Massmann received his PhD with Major in International Business Law. Dr. Massmann has practiced as a foreign licensed lawyer in Vietnam for more than 25 years. He is fluent in Vietnamese, including at both the negotiation and presentation level. Dr. Massmann practices in the areas of corporate international taxation, power/water projects, matters related to oil and gas companies and telecoms, privatization and equitization, mergers and acquisitions, and general commercial matters for multinational clients in relation to investment and doing business in Vietnam. He has been named a "Leading Lawyer" in Mergers and Acquisitions in Vietnam by Legal 500 on multiple occasions. The European Commission and the EU Trade Delegation in Vietnam selected Dr. Massmann and his team to advise and assist in a project to support the implementation of the EU - Vietnam Free Trade Agreement ("EVFTA"), one of Vietnam’s most important free trade agreements. It is estimated that over 400 laws have to be renewed and updated to meet Vietnam’s commitments in the EVFTA. This is one of the most comprehensive, famous and prestigious projects in the history of Vietnam’s economic and legal development. Dr. Oliver Massmann has more than 25 years extensive experience advising on financing transactions and Export Credit Agency (ECA) financing projects in Vietnam. Dr. Massmann has advised on close to 100 transactions related to banking and ECA financing from Germany, Japan, France and the US during the last 25+ years in Vietnam. In June 2016, Dr. Massmann became the first foreigner ever to give a presentation to the National Assembly of Vietnam in the Vietnamese language when the National Assembly of Vietnam invited him to present on the Impact of the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement on Vietnam. For over ten years he taught international law courses at the Ministry of Justice in Hanoi in Vietnamese. Dr. Massmann holds a German Judge Degree. He has worked as an arbitrator in international arbitration and mediation centers in Asia and Europe for over 25 years. Dr. Massmann has represented many clients in arbitration proceedings and disputes in such arbitration centers. He is a registered arbitrator of the Vietnam International Arbitration Centre (VIAC). Dr. Massmann is a 1994 graduate of Bochum Law University, first state exam and Ministry of Justice, Duesseldorf Germany, second state exam 1997. He holds a LLM degree in international taxation from St. Thomas University Florida- United State of America. He is certified as an International Financial Accountant and Auditor by the College of Birmingham. He is admitted to the Bar Association in Berlin and is a licensed foreign lawyer in Vietnam.
