Luis Penalver is a former member of the Executive Committee of the firm and represents leading investment and commercial banking firms and direct lenders, as well as issuers in public and private debt and equity financing transactions, including acquisitions, recapitalizations, strategic investments and tender and exchange offers. Luis’ practice also includes representation of both public and private companies in connection with general corporate and securities law matters. Luis is recognized as a notable practitioner in banking and capital markets by Euromoney’s IFLR1000 and listed in Lawdragon's 500 Leading Lawyers guide and Lawdragon's 500 Leading Dealmakers guide. His work has been recognized by Savoy Magazine who named Luis to its List of the Most Influential Black Lawyers. Luis has also been named a Notable Diverse Leader in Law by Crain’s New York Business. Luis serves on the Board of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, where he is also the Chair of the Pension Committee. Luis also serves on the Board of Visitors of Columbia College of Columbia University. Luis previously served on the Board of the Harlem School of the Arts and the Board of the Council of Urban Professionals (CUP) and Luis was a member of the Securities Regulation Committee of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York. During his tenure at the firm, Luis has served on most committees, most notably as Chair of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee. Luis also served as Co-Administrative Partner of the firm. He has practiced at Cahill since his graduation from Harvard Law School. He became a partner in 2002.
