Bio

Bruce Rawls practices in the firm's Business section, concentrating on tax and business planning. In addition to membership in the Alabama State Bar, he is a member of the State and Local Taxes Committee of the American Bar Association Section of Taxation. He also is a member of the Real Property, Probate and Trust Section and Business Law Section of the American Bar Association. Bruce is a member of Attorneys for Family-Held Enterprises, a professional organization devoted to the special problems of counseling and advising closely-held and family business enterprises. He is also a member of the Birmingham Estate Planning Council and the Birmingham Tax Forum. In 1992, Bruce co-authored, with colleague Warren Matthews, an article dealing with the reform of the Alabama franchise tax, which was published in the Alabama Law Review. He has been an Adjunct Faculty Member at Cumberland School of Law since 2000 teaching Income Tax. Bruce has lectured at numerous seminars on state and local tax topics and closely-held business tax planning. He is also listed in The Best Lawyers in America for Trusts and Estate Law. Bruce received his B.S., cum laude, in 1976 from the University of Alabama and his J.D., cum laude, in 1979 from Cumberland School of Law at Samford University. He was Research Editor of the Cumberland Law Review from 1978-79. In 1980, he received his LL.M., in Taxation, from New York University.
