Joe is a co-leader of the firm’s Intellectual Property Practice. He focuses his practice on intellectual property disputes including patents, unfair competition, and misappropriation of trade secrets. Joe has litigated more than 75 IP cases representing clients in district courts throughout the United States, as well as at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He has also represented clients in more than 100 post grant proceedings at the United States Patent and Trademark Office, including Inter Partes Review and Post Grant Review proceedings. Joe has extensive experience representing clients in ex parte reexaminations and reissue proceedings, as well as assisting clients with various other post-issuance procedures, such as certificates of correction. Joe also frequently works with clients on patent portfolio development and management strategies to maximize the protection and value of their IP assets. Joe represents clients across a broad range of technologies, including: wireless communication systems (such as Bluetooth, WiFi, and RFID), smart phone technology, touch screen devices, MEMS devices, paging and cellular systems, modems, computer networks, internet-related technologies (such as E-commerce, websites, authentication systems and online advertising), computer hardware and software (such as microprocessors, flash and non-volatile memory, operating systems and mobile-phone applications), remote and virtual back-up systems, gaming, linear and digital integrated circuits, semiconductor technology, pre-paid cards, avionics equipment, HD Radio, GPS-related technology, car stereos, electric motors, electronics, finance/fintech, blockchain technologies, computer vision systems, machine learning, artificial intelligence, optical systems, vehicular components (such as water pumps, oil filters, braking systems), SaaS platforms, automotive (such as spark plugs, wipers, air filters), high porosity bedding, automatic call distribution, physical perimeter security (bollards), and virtual/augmented reality. Joe's undergraduate degree is in electrical engineering.
