Bio

Peter Michaud serves as Chair of Ballard Spahr, a national firm with more than 1,200 lawyers and administrative professionals across 15 U.S. offices. As Chair, he guides the strategic direction of the firm, oversees growth and client development, and leads its Executive Committee. Peter guides Ballard Spahr’s mission to go beyond expectations—providing legal representation and business solutions of the highest quality, delivered with uncommon efficiency, responsiveness, and skill. He reinforces the firm’s commitment to exceptional client service, attracting and developing top talent, and strengthening its ongoing dedication to pro bono service and diversity, equity, and inclusion. Prior to becoming Chair, Peter served as Chair of the firm’s Business and Transactions Department, a member of its Expanded Board, and Managing Partner of its Minneapolis office. He joined Ballard Spahr in the 2018 merger with Lindquist & Vennum, a leader in middle-market deal making. The combination strengthened practice capabilities—particularly in the areas of private equity and strategic M&A transactions—and gave Ballard Spahr new offices in Minneapolis and Sioux Falls, SD, as well as an expanded presence in Denver. Peter is a private equity and M&A lawyer who has served as lead counsel to private equity funds and their portfolio companies, as well as strategic buyers, in stock and asset acquisitions and divestitures, mergers, recapitalizations, spin-offs, roll-ups, and other forms of sales and reorganizations. He also advised on senior finance, mezzanine, and other subordinated lender transactions and guided companies on business matters, including strategic initiatives, antitrust matters, and joint ventures.
