Bio

David Smalstig specializes in transactions including buy/sell side financial due diligence; carve-outs/integrations and synergy analysis; roll-ups and consolidations; expert witness; system conversions; interim/change management; working capital and cash flow analysis; and transition service agreements. Mr. Smalstig has over 35 years of experience and has worked on over 800 transactions both with global consulting firms and with public and private corporations. He has served in lead merger and acquisition positions, both within industry and globally-recognized consulting firms. He has experience with industrial manufacturing; engineering and professional service firms; automotive; logistics and transportation; railroad; energy and utility; food; pharmaceuticals and medical equipment; high tech and telecommunications; plastics; construction; banking; and consumer packaged goods. Mr. Smalstig provides his clients with analyses of historical and projected cash flows and operating results; profitability analysis of revenue sources; review and development of business plans; integration planning; post-transition management; negotiations with parties-in-interest; and management of overall administrative functions. Mr. Smalstig has been responsible for acquisitions and divestitures, accounting, human resources, information technology, risk management and legal, operational management and real estate. He has consulted for various private equity funds, including Bain Capital, Cerberus, Code Hennessy & Simmons, One Equity Partners, Platinum Equity, Sterling Capital Partners, Thoma Bravo, Willis Stein & Partners, Wind Point Partners and Wynnchurch Capital. He has also consulted for acquisitive companies, including AECOM, Brunswick, Delphi, Ford Motor Company, Fortune Brands, Koch Industries and Parsons. Prior to FTI Consulting, he was in leadership positions at both PwC and E&Y in their M&A practices servicing bulge bracket and middle market equity funds focused on international operations. In addition, Mr. Smalstig served in various senior positions at AECOM (NYSE) for over 10 years leading various acquisitions and integrations, and overseeing M&A, accounting, H&S, human resources, information technology, legal and business planning for the Americas. Mr. Smalstig is active in various non-profit organizations and serves as a Board Member to various charities and organizations. Mr. Smalstig is a Certified Public Accountant. He holds a B.S.B.A. degree in Business Administration and Accounting with a minor in Computer Sciences from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania and has completed graduate studies at both the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia, and the Manchester School of Business in the United Kingdom.
