Michael Tamulis is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal's Transaction Advisory Group in New York. He oversees the capital markets and accounting advisory practice. Mr. Tamulis assists companies to prepare for IPOs, carve-outs, spin-offs and other capital markets transactions. He also advises on complex accounting and reporting issues, including business combinations, revenue recognition, stock compensation and lease transactions. With technical accounting and financial accounting due diligence expertise, Mr. Tamulis consults with financial accounting due diligence teams and clients on complex accounting issues that can arise throughout the transaction lifecycle, including the due diligence phase, the ownership period and the sales process. He has led transactions in North America and Europe, and has assisted numerous private equity firms and strategic buyers across a wide spectrum of industries, including manufacturing, industrial products, consumer products, agro-chemical, luxury travel, sports franchises and distribution. Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Tamulis had significant Big Four experience with Ernst & Young. He developed a strong foundation in Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) after spending several years with the firm's assurance practice and with the National Accounting Standards (NAS) group, where he consulted with audit teams on the appropriate application of GAAP. He co-authored Ernst & Young's publication, "Financial Reporting Developments, Share-Based Payment, FASB Statement 123(R)." He also worked with the firm's transaction advisory services group in New York. In addition, Mr. Tamulis was the CFO of a Connecticut-based private equity firm specializing in providing growth capital to small companies across a wide variety of industries, including distribution, industrial products, printing/pre-press and construction in the Northeast region of the U.S. He also served as the director of corporate development with a regional office supply company. Mr. Tamulis earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from Fairfield University. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) licensed in Massachusetts. Mr. Tamulis served on the AICPA Financial Reporting Executive Committee (FinREC) from 2013 through 2016.
