Michael Surr Bio

Michael Surr is a Senior Director with Alvarez & Marsal‘s Transaction Advisory Group in New York. Mr. Surr brings more than 10 years of experience across a range of transaction settings, specializing in buy-side and sell-side financial due diligence services to private equity and strategic corporate clients on transactions valued from $100 million to $5 billion. Mr. Surr’s experience ranges from transactions involving middle-market acquisition targets to multi-billion-dollar complex cross-border carve out acquisitions across a range of industries. Mr. Surr's areas of expertise include identification and assessment of financial risk areas, quantification of items directly impacting transaction valuation (e.g., understanding normalized EBITDA, adequacy of working capital levels, debt items), analysis of key performance indicators, purchase agreement reviews and support and carve-out transaction implications. Mr. Surr has served private equity and strategic corporate clients on a number of M&A engagements across a range of industries including diversified industrials (from aerospace to chemicals), manufacturing, consumer products and services and business to business and direct to consumer services. He has also led international due diligence transactions for both private equity and strategic buyers involving multiple workstreams (including geographical and functional). Before joining A&M, Mr. Surr was with the transaction advisory services group of EY in New York. At EY, Mr. Surr began his career in transactions advisory services in the United Kingdom, spending his time on financial and business M&A due diligence for UK and European-based private equity and strategic corporate clients, and financial and business due diligence for stakeholders in Pan-European special situation scenarios (including secured lenders, pension trustees and equity holders). Mr. Surr also worked in EY’s Infrastructure Advisory team advising from a financial, modelling, structuring and strategic perspective, both public sector procurers and private sector providers in public private partnership transactions. Mr. Surr earned a bachelor’s degree in economics and management from the University of Oxford (UK) and is a chartered accountant with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (UK).
