Michael Simoncic Bio

Mike Simoncic is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal's Consumer and Retail Group. He brings more than 25 years of experience delivering performance improvement, including leading multiple enterprise-wide retail and consumer performance improvement initiatives. Mr. Simoncic’s performance improvement initiatives encompass all aspects of retail and consumer product companies, including merchandising, sourcing, supply chain, store operations, Omni-channel, marketing, finance and HR. His notable engagements at A&M include leading the cost-take initiative for a major national retailer that identified +$400 million savings annually through corporate overhead reductions and improved store operations, marketing and supply chain; leading supply chain transformation for a national chain, including new distribution and logistics, procurement savings and improved organizational support; reducing overhead/SG&A costs for national retail chain and identifying opportunities to improve cross-selling and average ticket; and leading enterprise review of a $1.5 billion big box retailer. Mr. Simoncic has served as Interim CEO, leading the turnaround of a global consumer products company. He revamped product strategy, implemented new go-to-market initiatives, SG&A expenses and secured capital infusion. He also served as Interim Store Operations leader, implementing new scheduling systems, in-store sales and customer service processes that increased conversion rates and lowered staffing/operating costs; developed tools to select SKUs and determine promotional discounts that improved sales and gross margins; conducted merchandise reviews (category and SKU-level) for multiple retailers, improving gross margins and revenues; and led multi-year cost take-out initiatives for Fortune 50 companies, overseeing process improvements, organization design changes. Mr. Simoncic also specializes in procurement and reducing third party expenses, working with 15+ private equity funds, 200+ portfolio companies, and sourcing more than 45 distinct spend categories generating over $100 million in annualized savings and leading to +$1 billion in enterprise value creation. He has been an adjunct at Washington University’s Olin School for Business. Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Simoncic spent nearly ten years with Arthur Andersen and BearingPoint. Mr. Simoncic earned a bachelor’s degree and an MBA from the University of Michigan.
