Jonathan Vanderveen Bio

Jonathan Vanderveen is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal Private Equity Performance Improvement in Chicago. He assists private equity firms on pre- and post-acquisition financial reporting including compiling closing balance sheets and the related statements of working capital, leading post-acquisition disputes, such as working capital disputes and breach of representations and warranties claims, and resolving financial reporting issues, such as unreconciled accounts and unexplained variances in EBITDA. As an expert in GAAP, Mr. Vanderveen prepares post-acquisition closing balance sheets and the related statements of cash, working capital, debt and transaction expenses. He assists clients with the implementation of purchase accounting for the opening balance sheet and liaises with company auditors to ensure a smooth and timely audit; supports buy-side and sell-side transactions in post-acquisition disputes, including working capital, earn-outs, breach of representations and warranties and other types of disputes; and has served as a neutral arbitrator on dozens of matters across a range of industries and issues. In addition, Mr. Vanderveen assists clients facing financial statement restatements, accounting reconstructions, the inability to meet internal, external or regulatory reporting/audit deadlines, and questionable financial transactions. Mr. Vanderveen also consults to clients experiencing allegations of improper financial conduct. His experience includes consulting clients facing accounting irregularities, financial statement restatements and regulatory inquiries/investigations. Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Vanderveen was a Partner with Deloitte. He began his career as an auditor in public accounting and he spent several years in the industry holding various financial reporting positions at a public company. Mr. Vanderveen earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from Hope College. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and a member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.
