Vikram Utamsingh is the Country Leader and Managing Director for Alvarez & Marsal India. He brings more than 20 years of experience in Indian M&A and seven years of experience in restructuring and insolvency in the U.K. Mr. Utamsingh’s primary areas of expertise are pre-acquisition due diligence and advising buyers of distressed businesses. He has deep experience in analyzing the quality of earnings, evaluating cash flows in terms of key business drivers, analyzing strengths and weaknesses of balance sheets, identifying related party and unusual transactions, accounting for mergers and acquisitions, reviewing purchase and sale agreements and assessing compliance with Indian GAAP and IFRS. In the U.K., Mr. Utamsingh worked on several receivership and liquidation cases involving the operational management and sale of various businesses. He has experience in several sectors including capital equipment, building construction and telecom equipment manufactures. In his role, Mr. Utamsingh developed short-term cash flow projections, negotiated key supplier and customer contracts to enable operations to continue, negotiated settlements with key customers, liquidated key assets of businesses, settled with tax and other regulatory authorities and managed businesses for lenders. Mr. Utamsingh has advised several bidders to buy businesses in insolvency. In the past one year, he has advised more than 10 prospective bidders comprising of corporates and private equity funds. In two cases, his clients were successful bidders. He has also acted as the advisor to the creditors’ committee where his role has been to evaluate bids and advice lenders on bid selection. Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Utamsingh spent 15 years with KPMG India where he held several leadership positions. Mr. Utamsingh started the due diligence business at KPMG. Mr. Utamsingh has worked on more than 200 transactions for strategic buyers and Private Equity firms. His clients include Blackstone, TPG, Warburg Pincus, Bain Capital, KKR, Temasek, Capital International and others. Mr. Utamsingh is a dual Chartered Accountant from the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England &Wales and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.
