Bio

Tom Scott is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal Private Equity Performance Improvement in New York, and serves as a leader of the firm’s Real Estate Transaction and Performance Improvement services. With more than 30 years of experience, Mr. Scott brings expertise in commercial real estate finance and accounting, focusing on proptech, property operations, asset management, fund management, fund accounting, investor reporting, due diligence, FP&A, property management, development, transactions, valuations and financial modeling. He has worked across all property types, including retail, office, industrial, data centers, multifamily, single-family rentals and hospitality and specializes in advising institutional CRE investors and REITs. Recently, Mr. Scott has been involved in cost takeout, leading the implementation of a 60+ FTE offshore property accounting platform for a vertically integrated private equity platform that directly owned a portfolio of 100+ office properties with around 25 million square feet (yielded $160 million in savings over about five years); process improvement, leading the project to implement a global ASC842 lease accounting solution for the largest global REIT/information management company (implemented in six months and under budget); and platform design, leading the implementation of the global lease accounting platform for the largest global co-working company with 900 locations in 19 countries and 75+ FTEs. Mr. Scott’s additional notable assignments include leading a sell-side due diligence team, supporting the largest private equity CRE owner globally. He oversaw the lease abstraction and financial modeling of $100+ billion of transactions over five years, involving industrial, office, retail and data center portfolios. He also oversaw the merger integration of two of the largest industrial owner/operators by a global private equity fund. The merger created an operating platform providing property accounting for 1,000+ properties and about 120 million square feet of industrial assets across 35 states. Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Scott served as Partner with EY, where he developed the Real Estate Consulting Practice in the APAC region over six years while managing dozens of client engagements in Asia and Europe. Mr. Scott earned a bachelor’s degree in economics and a Certificate in Programming and Data Processing from the University of Southern California.
