Timo Schmid is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal Private Equity Performance Improvement in Melbourne. With 20 years of operational performance improvement, mergers and acquisitions and strategy experience across Australia, New Zealand, Southeast Asia and Europe, he leads the firm’s PEPI team in Australia and New Zealand. Mr. Schmid has advised private equity and infrastructure funds, their portfolio companies and corporate buyers, undertaking target identification, pre-deal diligence and post-deal value creation efforts. He serves an advisor, embedded chief transformation officer and in industry, and has worked across sectors, including transportation, logistics, industrials, infrastructure, retail, healthcare and digital assets. His post-deal operational performance improvement engagements include various private equity-backed portfolio companies with functional reviews of supply chains, go-to-market strategies, fixed asset utilisation, working capital optimisation, pricing strategy and organisational design. Recently, Mr. Schmid assumed post-deal portfolio company leadership and program roles at a multi-site healthcare services business, leading a clinic-by-clinic improvement program focused on operating model changes and better treatment room utilisation (35% earnings lift); an ANZ food business, leading cash office, financial and operational planning and S&OP process redesign, resulting in a 20% improvement in cash cycle and a supply chain transition from 100% contract to a hybrid contract/spot model; a global property and services business, leading efforts to improve operational processes related to scenario planning and capital allocation; and an ANZ consumer goods retailer, operationalizing a transformation plan and generating 20% savings in SG&A and a 70% permanent lift in working capital efficiency via reviewing and benchmarking key cost line items, leading negotiations with suppliers and rightsizing logistics and head office functions. Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Schmid led BCG’s private equity practice in Australia and New Zealand. Earlier, he worked in a corporate M&A leadership role with Wesfarmers and as a consultant with Siemens. Mr. Schmid earned a bachelor’s degree in business information technology from the University of Cooperative Education in Karlsruhe, Germany, and an MBA from the Helsinki School of Economics, Finland. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst® charterholder.
