Tim Veen is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal’s Private Equity practice in Munich. He specializes in mergers and acquisitions (M&A), focusing on carve-outs, deal value creation and post-merger integrations. With more than a decade of M&A experience, Dr. Veen has engaged in the design, optimization and execution of complex carve-outs across Europe, with a focus on Germany and the Netherlands, serving corporate and private equity clients on the sell- and buy-side. He has extensive experience in the conceptualization, preparation and execution of M&A deals, and supports clients in the strategic design and baselining of the perimeter, Day 1 and Target Operating models, TSA schedules, FTE requirements, one-off- and recurring costs as well as value creation initiatives and 100-Day management plans. Most recently, Dr. Veen led the buy-side carve-out due diligence on a pan-European industrials business, analysing separation complexities, Carve-out financials (recurring and one-off costs), negotiated TSA requirements and devised the Day 1and Standalone blueprints. Dr. Veen has been the A&M project lead for the successful Carve-out of ThyssenKrupp Elevators from ThyssenKrupp Group, supporting Advent and Cinven in planning, challenging, and executing the successful closing and frictionless Day 1 of this €17 billion deal, including TSA set-up and Target Operating Model. He was PMO lead Day 1 responsible for the divestiture of the consumer healthcare business of a global healthcare company, managing the carve-out of 100 legal entities across 74 countries. Previously, Dr. Veen was the engagement lead for the successful carve-out of the European iron foundry business (~ €500 million in revenues, ~3,500 employees) of a leading Swiss industrial corporation. He supported the client from deal scoping over buyer negotiations to the successful Day 1 execution and transition into standalone state. Dr. Veen earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in international relations from the University of Groningen and a Ph.D. in political science and research methods from the University of Nottingham. A certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, he is fluent in English, German and Dutch.
