Bio

Robert Gordon is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal’s Private Equity Performance Improvement practice in Houston. He specializes in finance and accounting and supports companies through periods of distress, transformation and significant change including big-bet technology initiatives for finance organizations. With more than 10 years of experience, Mr. Gordon partners with clients to solve complex problems within transaction and distressed contexts. He has served in interim roles supporting the completion of M&A as well as critical roles within finance. In addition, Mr. Gordon has led large transformational projects for clients experiencing financial distress and/or restructuring as a result of a Chapter 11 filing. He has served corporate and private equity clients across various industries, including energy, manufacturing and industrial services. Most recently, Mr. Gordon served as the interim Director of Treasury with a focus on asset-based lending (ABL) reporting, bank covenant management and daily liquidity support for a $600 million portfolio company experiencing liquidity issues. In this role, he developed a 13-week cash flow forecast and identified opportunities for liquidity improvement. He also analyzed loan documents for additional bank EBITDA adjustments that improved reported leverage ratios. In addition, Mr. Gordon stood up a finance and accounting (F&A) organization for a $1 billion carve-out that included initial bank reporting, monthly operating reports, vendor assessments spanning a variety of products and services (e.g., office space, insource vs. outsourcing, staffing, etc.), and managing transition services (TSA) with the asset seller. He assisted in the selection and implementation of the new company’s ERP, allowing TSA roll-off in just nine months and supporting a seamless transition for the new leadership of the organization. Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Gordon worked with a Big Four accounting firm. Mr. Gordon earned a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in accounting from Texas A&M University. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in the state of Texas.
