Bio

Markus Lahrkamp is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal Private Equity Performance Improvement in New York. He also leads engagements as part of the A&M Rapid Results Program™. With more than 15 years of consulting experience, he brings a wealth of expertise in top-line growth and performance improvement for manufacturing, distribution and services companies in a variety of industries, including construction and construction materials, furniture, consumer products, high-tech and automotive. Before joining A&M, Mr. Lahrkamp was the President and CEO of Arthur D. Little, Inc. and Droege & Comp. He built and led both of the companies’ private equity practices in New York, and focused on due diligence and value enhancements for a significant number of private equity-sponsored portfolio companies. He has executed on numerous notable projects with PE-sponsored portfolio companies. For a plastics extrusion machinery company in Massachusetts, he conducted comprehensive performance improvement, and completed a structural, process and management overhaul resulting in EBITDA improvements of more than $15 million. For a Chicago-based furniture maker and retailer (with 25 outlets in Chicagoland), he developed and implemented a “controllable cost” model, and reduced overall cost levels in key distribution / logistics / return processes by more than 10 percent within 12 months. For a B2B player in the consumer products space, Mr. Lahrkamp identified and implemented a comprehensive repositioning; he also significantly increased service levels and synchronized the marketing / sales approach with an operational excellence program to boost the top-line by more than 20 percent and EBITDA by 40 percent over 24 months. At a mid-market manufacturing company in the Midwest, Mr. Lahrkamp led lean manufacturing transformation, increased labor productivity by 30 percent, improved order-to-deliver time from four weeks to less than seven days and grew EBITDA by 20 percent over 12 months. In addition, he has significant consulting experience with large U.S.-based and international clients focusing on their short- and long-term performance improvement needs. Prior to his consulting career, he was an accountant with the national real estate practice at PricewaterhouseCoopers in Atlanta. Mr. Lahrkamp earned a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Muenster in Germany. He is an accredited CPA in the state of Georgia.
