Bio

Liliana Fernandes is a Senior Director with Alvarez & Marsal Private Equity Performance Improvement in London. She brings 19 years of experience in strategy, transactions and operations consulting, and has worked in interim management and non-executive director positions. Her primary focus is operational due diligence (ODD), commercial due diligence (CDD), performance improvement, growth strategy and business planning. Ms. Fernandes has worked with clients across a range of industries, including healthcare, consumer goods, retail and technology. Ms. Fernandes’ notable engagements include identifying business options for a worldwide manufacturer of climate solutions by assessing manufacturing sites for footprint reduction, SKU optimization and performance improvement initiatives in logistics and procurement. She was the project manager in an integrated operations IT and legal due diligence for a leading fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) company looking to carve-out and sell a division. She led the day-to-day activities and analysis for the ODD workstream, focusing on operating model, build-ups, and performance improvement quantification of impacts after carve-out. Previously, Ms. Fernandes led commercial operations in the post-merger integration of two worldwide biotechnology firms with multiple sales locations and diverse processes and culture. She has led ODD processes in multiple industries and sectors, focusing on operating model considerations, value creation potential, synergies, implementation plan and one-off costs. Ms. Fernandes also led CDD assignments to assess sustainability of revenues in transaction settings by analysing market size and growth, competitive dynamics, demand characteristics, customer purchasing factors, and company performance to quantify impacts on revenues and gross margins. Prior to joining A&M, Ms. Fernandes spent over five years leading the roll-up of businesses for private equity funds, integrating their operations and planning for further growth. She handled acquisitions and organic growth and active management of the businesses during their integration. Ms. Fernandes earned a bachelor’s degree in economics and a postgraduate degree in corporate finance from the Nova School of Business and Economics in Portugal. She earned an MBA from INSEAD and a certificate in leadership from Harvard Business School. A Portuguese and Brazilian national, Ms. Fernandes is fluent in Portuguese and English and conversational in Spanish.
