Jeffrey Coombs is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal in Private Equity Performance Improvement in London. He brings more than fifteen years of experience in the financial services sector. Mr. Coombs has led projects throughout the investment lifecycle, including strategy, diligence, integration, business transformation, IT delivery, debt and capital optimisation, marketing and sales campaigns, and cost take-out. He has been active in transactions across the financial services sector, including banking, insurance, financial technology, online and traditional broking, wealth management, fund administration, business services, debt collection and specialty finance. Mr. Coombs’s notable private equity experience includes the launch and development of a start-up digital/physical small and mid-size enterprise (SME) and retail bank in the Czech Republic that grew from 5,000 to over 400,000 clients over the investment period; and the restructuring of a wealth management bank and life insurer carved out of an international banking group and fundamentally renovated across sales, capital, accounting, cost and technology. Mr. Coombs handled the institutionalisation of a French founder-owned online/offline insurance broker, establishing a robust financial control and funding structure, improving digital marketing and overhauling claims management, while simultaneously launching new ventures into adjacent product lines using reinsurance. He also oversaw the improvement and sale of a UK SME leasing broker. Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Coombs was a Managing Director at AnaCap Financial Partners, a private equity fund specialising in European financial services, with Board roles in banking, wealth management and broking. Prior to AnaCap, Mr. Coombs worked with Oliver Wyman, specialising in diligence projects and consulting for private equity, corporate and investment banking clients, and with Citigroup, where he focused on financial institutions and securities services. Mr. Coombs earned a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and history from Northwestern University.
