Ernie Chung is a Senior Director with Alvarez & Marsal Private Equity Performance Improvement in Denver. He specializes in the space value chain, providing a range of transaction related services to investors and corporate M&A teams, including target identification, commercial and operational due diligence, post-merger integration planning and merger execution. With over 25 years of consulting and industry experience, Mr. Chung has led numerous corporate transformations and worked with nearly all the major satellite OEMs in North America and Europe. His expertise includes technical cost reduction/design to value, supply chain transformation and distressed program turnaround. He has also provided domain expertise for major bankruptcy and restructuring cases, including Intelsat and Avanti. Mr. Chung has served in interim executive roles, including as a program director for a major development shipbuilding program. Notably, Mr. Chung has conducted a buy-side target identification in the satellite bus subsystem and component domains for a large Japanese conglomerate; served as an expert witness for the plaintiff in an ICC arbitration case for a defense offset program relating to satellite financing; conducted a going concern and spectrum valuation for an MSS satellite operator capitalization for the next generation constellation; developed the wind down plan for a satellite service provider’s maritime business; developed the satellite capacity vendor negotiation strategy for a distressed Canadian managed service provider; and served as subject-matter expert for the financial advisor of an interested debtor party in the Intelsat bankruptcy case. Mr. Chung has also led a technical, financial, operational due diligence and merger integration for an on-orbit services provider acquiring a Middle East asset; led a restricted commercial and technical due diligence engagement for a private equity client investing in an NGSO constellation; developed revenue projections for a U.K.-based FSS satellite operator’s debt restructuring; led a technical margin management transformation for a Franco-Italian OEM; and led a supply chain transformation for a major North American satellite OEM. Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Chung spent two years as a Managing Director in FTI Consulting’s TMT practice. Mr. Chung earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of California Santa Barbara and an MBA from the Leeds School of Business, University of Colorado Boulder.
