David Richards is a Senior Director with Alvarez & Marsal Private Equity Performance Improvement in New York. He brings more than 20 years of experience in private credit asset management to create operational excellence for private investing operations, focusing on general partner performance and administration. Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Richards spent six years with Medley Capital in New York City, serving most recently as Chief Investment Officer. As part of the C-level executive team appointed post restructuring, he led Medley’s successful wind-down following its parent company’s Chapter 11 filing, transitioning 10+ funds and SMAs and $2.5 billion of AUM to sales and/or other managers. Mr. Richards worked on the public merger of Medley’s largest client Sierra Income Corp, a non-traded business development company (BDC) with Barings BDC (ticker: BBDC) Previously, Mr. Richards was a member of the board of directors of American Capital Ltd.(ACAS) a publicly traded global asset manager and private equity firm with over $20 billion in assets under management. He was a member of the Audit Committee and of the Strategic Review Committee that recommended and oversaw ACAS’ merger with Ares Capital Corp (ticker ARCC). The merger provided ACAS shareholders with the company’s highest price/book multiple and share price since 2008. Mr. Richards earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Providence College and an MBA from Emory University.
