Brian Long is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal Private Equity Services Operations group in Chicago. He brings nearly 20 years of experience in strategy consulting and functional leadership, having been general manager of a $15 billion manufacturing business and managing director of a private equity fund where he delivered rapid EBITDA improvements. Mr. Long has worked across a variety of product and service industries and in many functions, including project management office/transformation office management, organizational design and effectiveness, large-scale cost reduction programs, plant network rationalization, and lean and production line/SKU rationalization. He focuses on the manufacturing, industrials and service sectors. Mr. Long’s recent engagements include leading a transformation office at the executive level of a $1.4 billion service business with 300 branches and 8k employees that brought a 27 percent EBITDA improvement through SOP and organizational redesign; leading a year-long company-wide transformation across all functions of a $1.2 billion service business with over 280 sites in a disseminated business model, resulting in a 45 percent increase in EBITDA; and restructuring end-to-end business processes for a $1.2 billion technology and communications company. Previously, Mr. Long led a transformation program that increased sales by 17 percent through sales force effectiveness and streamlining/outsourcing back-office functions; led a merger integration of three US-based water cooler product and services companies; led a cross-portfolio supply and cost reduction program for a PE fund; centralized and reduced indirect spend by $1 billion across 10 North American manufacturing plants; and led the successful turnaround of a $180 million chassis manufacturer to the van and motorhome industries. Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Long was a Principal with Booz Allen strategy consulting, held various operational leadership positions with Navistar and was an operations managing director for Wynnchurch Capital—an industrial-focused PE fund. Mr. Long earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics, economics and English from Beloit College and an MBA from the University of Chicago.
