Brian Kinson is a Senior Director with Alvarez & Marsal Private Equity Performance Improvement in Austin. He brings over 15 years of industry and consulting experience, with keen expertise supporting clients in operational performance improvement, large scale PMO leadership and operational due diligence. Mr. Kinson’s recent engagements have spanned several industries, including pharmaceutical, medical device, flexible packaging, labeling, industrial and health and beauty. He led the U.S. assessment and implementation team of an international pharmaceutical organization, where the team identified $80+ million in EBITDA improvement and $150+ million in working capital improvement. Levers identified surrounded manufacturing yield, labor efficiency, quality/regulatory strategy and approach to inventory levels. Additionally, Mr. Kinson led the operational turnaround and COVID-19 recovery of a $150 million flexible packaging and labeling pant. Guided by his leadership, his team was able to stabilize production, optimize the manufacturing/product portfolio, improve the overall quality systems and costs and maintain key customers who were at risk of moving business/spend. These efforts supported an EBITDA improvement from a baseline of ~5% to above 15% over the course of the engagement. Furthermore, Mr. Kinson was responsible for the PMO of building out and driving the scale up of a ~260 thousand square foot factory supporting the COVID-19 vaccine deployment as part of project “Warp Speed.” The efforts included final building construction, installation and validation of 30 manufacturing lines; the hiring of 300+ employees; and accountability of initial day-to-day production operations. The project finalized with 100% on-time delivery, full operational capability and an incremental $80+ million in EBITDA for the portfolio company. Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Kinson worked predominantly in the medical device industry. During this time, he held various engineering and operational leadership roles at Stryker; served as a manufacturing and engineering leader at DJO Surgical/Enovis, an orthopedic OEM (previously a Blackstone portfolio company); and led operations at HeartFlow, a venture backed cardiac care organization, where he had multi-site responsibilities. Mr. Kinson earned a bachelor’s degree in industrial technology from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, and a master’s degree in systems engineering from Southern Methodist University in Dallas.
