Bio

Azmat Mohammed is a Senior Director with Alvarez & Marsal’s Private Equity Performance Improvement practice in Chicago. Mr. Mohammed brings more than 20 years of experience in engineering and architecture, assisting clients with performance improvement, operations and technology innovation. Mr. Mohammed provides an authoritative practitioner’s perspective on proprietary technology practices, scalability, and product development for clients’ strategic transaction plans. He identifies and evaluates potential value creation and risk avoidance opportunities by carefully understanding his clients’ strategic objectives. Mr. Mohammed’s notable engagements include leveraging his product engineering and management experience to lead 100+ buy-side technology diligences for strategic and financial clients across multiple industry verticals; leading the technology workstream for a $1.6 billion Insurance acquisition across the transaction lifecycle, including post-close support. He also led the technology integrated management office for a first-of-a-kind Fintech-bank acquisition, working on information security, regulatory controls, applications, and infrastructure integration considerations. Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Mohammed was a Director with KPMG’s Deal Advisory Technology Center of Excellence, focusing on assessing products and platforms, evaluating software risks, and building roadmaps and plans to realize financial clients’ investment theses. Typical roadmap initiatives included cloud migrations, analytics capability builds, and data integrations using modern techniques. Previously, Mr. Mohammed led turn-around efforts at a mid-market Mexican brokerage, improving operational efficiencies, introducing modern engineering practices, and building scalable products. As special projects advisor to the CIO and CDO, he hired and trained 50+ engineers, incubated crypto prototypes, and built innovative cloud-native solutions. Mr. Mohammed began his career managing technology operations and development practices for several firms in various operational capacities. Mr. Mohammed earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science and a master’s degree in software engineering and data communications from DePaul University and an MBA (strategy, operations, econometrics, and international business concentrations) from the University of Chicago.
