Bio

Richard is a partner and co-founder of Tillery Capital and serves on the board of directors of each of Tillery Capital's portfolio companies. During the past several years, Richard has been an active private equity investor and serves as a director on some of those investments. Prior to co-founding Tillery Capital, Richard was the Dean of the College of Business Administration at Butler University (Indianapolis, IN), a position he held since 2000. During this time, he led the development of the Butler Business Accelerator, a major experiential educational initiative that includes the formation of a consulting business and private equity fund. Previously, he was a professor on the marketing faculty at Butler, specializing in marketing strategy and organizational leadership. Prior to his career in academics, Richard was an entrepreneur and partner in his family's enterprise, an agricultural chemicals business. He was responsible for much of the company's growth and diversification during the late 1970s and 1980s and oversaw the sale of the firm in 1994. In addition, Richard has consulted with more than 20 companies, both large and small, on matters including growth strategies, recapitalization, acquisition strategy, and leadership development of key personnel. Richard holds a B.A. degree from Otterbein College (Westerville, OH), a MBA in Finance from Indiana University, and a Ph.D. in Marketing from Indiana University. He has been a Certified Public Accountant since 1979, licensed in Ohio.
