James C. Shillito is a Principal in the U.S. Equity Opportunity Fund, focusing on middle market buyouts within the healthcare sector. He is based in New York. Since joining Carlyle in 2015, Mr. Shillito has overseen the acquisition of four current portfolio companies, sitting on the boards of each. Prior to joining Carlyle, Mr. Shillito was a key member of the investment teams at private equity firms Broad Sky Partners and Fenway Partners, focusing primarily on middle market buyout transactions in the consumer products industry. Mr. Shillito was also the Vice President of Business Development for BRG Sports, where he managed several divestitures, acquisitions and other transactions. Mr. Shillito began his investing career with hedge fund Maverick Capital, where he invested in public companies primarily in the household products, building products, gaming, lodging and leisure sectors. Mr. Shillito also held investment banking positions with Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein and Prudential Securities, primarily focusing on merger and acquisition advisory, where he completed a variety of transactions in the retail sector. Mr. Shillito graduated summa cum laude from Boston University’s School of Management with a BS in business administration and a concentration in finance.
