James has 20 years’ experience in technology private equity, particularly growth capital, including five years as a general partner at Advent Venture Partners (2001 to 2006) and five years at Warburg Pincus (1996 to 2001) where he became managing director and partner in 1998. He joined WHEB Partners as managing partner in 2007 and was chairman of its investment committee between 2009 and 2016. James formed Wetherby in 2016 to continue with the technology growth capital investment strategy. Prior to becoming a private equity investor, James was responsible for M&A at Misys plc, an acquisitive London stock exchange listed enterprise software business, and made several successful acquisitions in the USA. James holds an MA from University of Cambridge and an MBA from the Wharton Business School (University of Pennsylvania). James is the managing partner of Wetherby and chairman of its investment committee.
