Michael is a Principal at Staple Street Capital. He is responsible for identifying and evaluating investment opportunities, performing due diligence and working with our management teams to create value. Prior to joining Staple Street Capital, Mr. Becker was a Principal at Thayer Street Partners where he focused on making private equity, growth equity, and structured debt investments in financial services and business services companies that are primarily technology-enabled. While at Thayer Street, Mr. Becker was responsible for all key aspects of the investment process, including: origination, due diligence, structuring, financing, and execution. He also served on multiple Boards and worked closely with portfolio companies’ management teams to create value through M&A, financing activities, corporate JVs, and growth strategies. Prior to Thayer Street, he was part of the investment team at a corporate credit hedge fund, Wingspan Investment Management, where he identified, executed, and managed stressed & distressed debt and special situations equity investments across industries. Mr. Becker was one of the founding team members of the Tactical Opportunities group at The Blackstone Group where he helped to opportunistic invest over $1 billion of equity capital across asset classes, capital structures, geographies, and industries, including financial services & specialty finance, real estate & real estate services, structured credit, transportation, and telecom. Mr. Becker began his fulltime career at Goldman Sachs in the Financial Institutions Group within the Investment Banking Division and the Structured Products Group within the Securities Division where he focused on M&A, capital raising, and principal transactions. Mr. Becker received his B.B.A. from Emory University’s Goizueta Business School with a triple major in Finance, Information Systems, and Organizational Management.
