Bio

James Colyer is a Managing Partner at True North Companies and is responsible for deal origination, underwriting, deal execution and portfolio management activities. In addition to M&A related activities, James oversees all financial aspects of True North. James began working with True North in 2011 and has been a professional investor for over 18 years. Previously, James was an investment professional at Huntsman Gay Global Capital, a $1.1 billion private equity fund. As an original member of Huntsman Gay, James was responsible for executing all aspects of investment activities including deal sourcing, investment screening, due diligence, structuring and legal negotiations. His buy-side deal experience was focused on the aerospace and defense, consumer products, and industrial industries. Prior to Huntsman Gay, James was an investment professional at Sorenson Capital, a $250 million private equity firm where he completed 5 transactions. Prior to this, he was an investment banker for Lehman Brothers focused on the consumer/retail industry. His sell-side experience included 12 M&A and corporate finance transactions totaling nearly $2 billion. James currently serves on the board of directors of Anmark, Shared Performance and Royal Parking and is actively involved with the Seed Spot, a non-profit organization focused on supporting socially-oriented entrepreneurs. He earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from the University of Kansas. James is an avid golfer and college basketball fan.
