Bio

Upton joined OPTrust as Chief Financial Officer and a member of the Executive Team in May 2021. He has extensive experience with international markets and all areas in finance, including treasury. Recently, he held the position of Senior Vice President, Finance at Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS). Prior to this appointment, Upton served as Global Vice President Finance and Chief Accountant at Sun Life Financial, where he led critical operational finance activities including financial reporting, accounting policy and education, managed external audit, tax and capital structures. Upton’s previous roles include progressively senior positions at General Electric, HSBC and PwC. Most recently, he provided advisory services including supporting and mentoring on a variety of finance issues and serving as a working group member of the Accounting Standards Board, reviewing pension plan standards, pension administration systems and enabling technology. Upton received his bachelor and masters from the University of Waterloo and has his CPA in both Canada and the United States.
