Bio

Stephen joined OPTrust in 2018 and became a member of the Executive Team in February 2020. As General Counsel, he leads the Legal Services team which provides legal and regulatory counsel to the organization, with a focus on investments and member experience. He also oversees the organization’s corporate secretary, procurement and legal operations functions. Prior to joining OPTrust, Stephen was Vice President and Associate General Counsel at the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan and was a corporate lawyer in private practice at leading law firms in New York and Toronto. He is an Officer of the International Bar Association’s Corporate and Mergers & Acquisitions Law Committee and is a former member of the Ontario Securities Commission’s Securities Advisory Committee. Stephen holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Toronto, a Bachelor of Laws from Osgoode Hall Law School and a Master of Laws from Columbia University. He is a member of both the Ontario and New York bar.
