W. Scott O’Neil is the chief executive officer of O’Neil Capital Management Inc (OCM), a private fund management company with investment interests in real estate, printing, digital media, newspaper, brokerage, investment advisory, and information technology services. OCM and its subsidiaries employ more than 800 associates worldwide. As CEO, he provides leadership and strategic direction for all companies under the OCM umbrella, including William O’Neil + Company, Inc., an SEC registered investment advisor; William O’Neil India Pvt Ltd, a SEBI registered investment adviser and IT development company; William O’Neil Shanghai Pvt Ltd, a research and information technology development company; O’Neil Securities, Inc., an institutional broker-dealer; and O’Neil Digital Solutions, LLC, a data-driven publishing and delivery solutions company with three national locations. Mr. O’Neil joined Investor’s Business Daily in 1986, where he served in a range of leadership roles, including director of marketing and advertising sales, before becoming publisher in 1994. In 2000, he became a full-time portfolio manager for O’Neil Capital Management Inc. The OCM investment team successfully sidestepped all the major crashes of the decade, including 2000 and 2008. Mr. O’Neil leverages his portfolio management experience and provides continual input to the development of institutional services for William O’Neil + Company. In 2010, Mr. O’Neil was named president of MarketSmith (acquired by News Corp in 2021) and guided its national launch. The brand has branched out globally, with various mobile and digital applications, including MarketSmith India, MarketSmith Hong Kong, and MarketSmith China. In 2014, Mr. O’Neil was appointed CEO of O’Neil Capital Management Inc. by his father, William J. O’Neil, after investing side-by-side with him and providing leadership to all OCM companies for decades. In addition to his executive role, Mr. O’Neil has expressed his passion for investing as a media commentator, and he continues to speak at workshops and financial industry events. Mr. O’Neil is a native Californian and earned his degree in Business Management from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. He is also a graduate of Harvard Business School’s Program for Management Development. Mr. O’Neil is married, with two children, and enjoys spending time with his family, reading, landscaping, and baseball.
