Lew Klessel, Managing Director, joined New Mountain in 2017. Prior to New Mountain, Mr. Klessel was in the operating group at Bain Capital from 2005 to 2017 and served as a managing director since 2011. While in the operating group, Mr. Klessel had lead operating responsibility for a number of portfolio companies ranging in size from $1 to $10 Billion within Bain Capital’s private equity fund. During his time at Bain Capital, Mr. Klessel served on the board of a number of publicly-traded and privately held investments and was responsible for the firm’s efforts to develop and drive productivity and efficiency across the portfolio. From 1997 to 2005, Mr. Klessel held several senior operating roles within Home Depot, including President of HD Supply’s Facilities Maintenance business, Divisional Merchandise Manager and head of Home Depot’s Strategic Business Development group. From 1994 to 1997, Mr. Klessel was a consultant with McKinsey & Company and led growth and operational improvement efforts in the logistics, telecommunications, home improvement retail and consumer products industries. Prior to his time at McKinsey and graduate school, Mr. Klessel was a certified public accountant with Ernst & Young and rotated through the firm’s national office accounting group. Mr. Klessel currently serves on the Board of Directors of Horizon Services and Zep, Inc. Mr. Klessel received a BS from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from Harvard Business School, where he was a Baker Scholar.
