Stephen is a founding partner at Monomoy and the oldest guy in the office. He’ll be the first to tell you he loves his work, both for its daily challenges and for the unique opportunities it brings him to learn, grow, and make businesses better. Before founding Monomoy with Dan and Justin way back in 2005, Stephen was a principal at KPS Capital Partners, the senior professional at Keilin & Co., a restructuring advisory firm, and a partner at Cohen, Weiss and Simon, a union-side labor law firm. As a lifelong turnaround professional, Stephen has represented stakeholders in some of the biggest restructurings in the North American airline and steel industries, and he writes and lectures frequently on value investing, business restructuring and continuous improvement. Stephen holds an A.B. from Brown University and a J.D. from Harvard Law School. He is a recovering lawyer but has completed a 12-step program and takes it one day at a time. Stephen lives for Diane, Michael and Lizzie, regarded by many as the greatest family in the history of the world. Stephen had a full head of black hair when he helped found the firm in 2005. Such, he says, are the sacrifices that we at Monomoy are prepared to make.
