Bio

Dan graduated from Brown ‘82 and Stanford B-School ’88 and founded Main Street Resources (“MSR”) in 1998 as a niche private equity firm partnering with entrepreneurs in growing smaller regional companies. Since its inception, the firm has worked closely with a large number of diverse entrepreneurs, enterprises, partners, and investors over a wide range of complex human-scale projects and opportunities. Over the last few years, Dan has evolved MSR and his personal interests into a platform for local action and venture philanthropy, working closely as a facilitating venture partner with many leaders and organizations across the spectrum (for-profit, social enterprise, non-profit). Dan is an active teacher and convener, including having recently co-taught Social Enterprise Entrepreneurship at Brown and RISD. Dan believes enlightening our political/economic system is the key to addressing our core social, economic, and environmental challenges - and that the best way to achieve this is through experimenting and modeling local/tangible more conscious alternatives, projects, and enterprises. Some of Dan’s past and current involvements include Chair of The Schumacher Center for New Economics, Founder/Chair of Green Village Initiative, Chair of the Fairfield County Community Foundation's Center for Non-Profit Excellence, Strategic Partner of The Compass School, Social Enterprise Greenhouse, eco.ri, The Compost Plant, Pharmaesthetics, and many others. Dan grew up in New York City, raised his three awesome children in Westport, CT. For his efforts Dan has received the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) 2013 Distinguished Citizen Award, the Association of Fundraising Professionals 2014 Outstanding Philanthropist Award, and been recognized locally by his town, its nature center, the boy scouts, and others.
