Mr. Sharma joined IDFC Alternatives in 2015. He has over nineteen years of experience both in the US and India across entrepreneurship, private equity, M&A, corporate finance and investment banking. Mr. Sharma will focus on originating and evaluating equity investments, over-seeing the portfolio and creating exit opportunities. He has a strong Media and Entertainment, Telecom, IT&ITES, Consumer and Auto sector expertise. Immediately prior to joining IDFC Alternatives, Mr. Sharma was a co-founder of Prime Gourmet Private Limited, a company involved in identifying and executing a pan India Master Franchise Agreement for the roll-out of a US casual dining chain in India. He was also actively exploring launching a renewable wind energy platform. Earlier, Mr. Sharma was a Director and part of the founding team at Providence Equity Partners’ India office (2007-12). He was responsible for all aspects of the investment activities of the fund. He was involved in the fund’s investment of ~USD 900 million in India which included UFO Moviez, Indus Towers and Idea Cellular. Prior to that, he was part of the Investment banking team in New York office of Deutsche Bank (2004-07) and Charlotte office of Wachovia Capital (2003-04) where he covered Telecom and Media sector. Earlier, he was part of the Mergers and Acquisitions Investment Banking team of Deutsche Bank, New York (2001-03). Mr. Sharma started his career as a Founder and CEO of Trinayana Auto (1994-99) which is a manufacturer of auto components and a vendor for large automobile OEMs in India. Mr. Sharma holds a Master in Business Administration degree from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi.
