Mr. Etzkorn is Managing Director of Heron Capital Venture Fund, a life science venture fund, and Heron Capital Equity Partners, a private equity partnership. Mr. Etzkorn brings more than 16 years of investing experience and more than 13 years of operational and technical management experience to Heron. Prior to joining Heron, Mr. Etzkorn was a Principal at CID Capital, a venture capital and private equity firm. While at CID, his portfolio responsibilities included: Axiomed Spine Corporation (acquired by KIC Ventures), EKOS Corporation (acquired by BTG plc), HyperNex, Inc. (acquired by Nova Measuring Instruments) and Renal Solutions, Inc. (acquired by Fresenius Medical Care). Prior to joining CID Capital in 2001, Mr. Etzkorn spent thirteen years active duty in the U.S. Navy in a variety of technical and supervisory roles, most recently as a Nuclear Engineer and Communications Officer aboard the Fleet Ballistic Missile Submarine USS ALASKA. He also served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Naval Science at the University of Illinois and as an advisor to the National Science Foundation for the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program. He received his M.B.A. from the University of Illinois and a bachelor degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Wisconsin. Currently, Mr. Etzkorn serves on the board of directors at Arcamed and Veracity Medical Solutions. He also led the firm's investments in AirXpanders (AXP:AU), Atlantis Components (acquired by Astra Zeneca), BioSET (acquired by Ferring Pharmaceuticals) and Celleration (acquired by Alliqua Biomedical (Nasdaq:ALQA)). In the community, Mr. Etzkorn serves on the board of directors at Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana. He previously served on the board of directors of the Venture Club of Indiana and at Second Helpings, an Indianapolis-based hunger relief organization. He is also a graduate of the Stanley K Lacey Leadership program.
