Prior to co-founding Hawk Capital, Jim was a co-founder and partner of Everton Partners, a commercial real estate investment firm. Between 2006 and 2013, Everton Partners and its affiliated partnerships acquired 16 office and retail properties in two portfolios. Those portfolios generated cash-on-cash returns in excess of 4x. In 2003, Jim was named the Vice President of Acquisitions for American Financial Realty Trust (NYSE:AFR), where he was responsible for originating real estate portfolio acquisitions directly from banks and thrifts. During his 3 ½ year tenure at AFR, Jim sourced and consummated in excess of $1.5 billion of acquisitions and well over $2 billion of lease transactions. Prior to AFR, Jim served as the financial adviser to, and a part of, the investor group that acquired a controlling interest in Nutrisystem, Inc. He also was the Senior Vice President of Corporate Development/M&A for Verticalnet, Inc. where he helped lead the company's acquisition and divestiture efforts, consummating more than 20 deals with transaction value well in excess of $1.0 billion. Jim was an associate at a leveraged buyout group where he evaluated, modeled and structured principal investments. He began his career in Philadelphia at Morgan Lewis as a corporate attorney focusing on mergers and acquisitions. Jim received a BA degree in Economics, with distinction, from the University of Kansas, where he was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa honor society. He received a JD degree from Georgetown University Law Center and an MBA from Georgetown University Graduate School of Business, where he was inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma honor society.
