Bio

Phillip has 27 years’ experience and is the Founder and Managing Partner of Ethos Mezzanine Partners (previously called Mezzanine Partners). He is also a member of the Ethos’ Executive Committee. In this role, he has pioneered the development of mezzanine finance across Eastern and Southern Africa. Prior to founding Mezzanine Partners in 2005, Phillip was a Director of Brait South Africa and Brait Private Equity, with primary responsibility for leveraged finance in Brait’s private equity business. Whilst Mezzanine Partners was part of the Stanlib group, Phillip was also head of Credit Portfolio Management in Stanlib’s R170bn Fixed Interest Division, and assumed responsibility for credit across 10 SSA local currency FI operations in the group. Prior to joining Brait in 2000, Phillip filled senior and executive management positions in the Special Projects and Structured Finance Divisions of Standard Merchant Bank, Rand Merchant Bank and African Merchant Bank. Phillip received a Master’s in Public Administration from Harvard University, where he was an Edward S. Mason Fellow; and a BA LLB from the University of Stellenbosch. He has an H Dip Tax cum laude from the University of Johannesburg and is admitted as an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa.
