Bio

Jun is the Founder and Chief Investment Officer of Crescent Cove Advisors LP. The eldest of four children, he was born in Singapore to an engineer father and a school teacher mother. Music was integral to his early childhood development, where he learned to play the piano, violin and viola, all of which contributed significantly to his personal growth and how he thinks about and approaches business today. For Jun, entrepreneurship epitomizes the qualities of commitment, self-discipline, resilience, collaboration and optimism – the very same qualities required to learn a musical instrument. As a boy, Jun was selected to play the viola in the Singapore Youth Orchestra and later, when he turned 18, in the military chamber ensemble while serving his mandatory two-plus years of military service. As a musical ambassador for his country, he performed on goodwill missions and at government functions, as well as for various head of states. Upon completion of his national service, Jun enrolled at the University of Michigan where, as a freshman, he was chosen as first chair of viola in the orchestra. After three years of Big Ten football games, studies and music, Jun graduated Ross School of Business with a degree in finance and accounting. Jun started his career at Bear, Stearns & Co. in New York in a multi-disciplinary role across TMT, M&A, equity and debt capital markets. A few years later, he made the transition to Asia via Morgan Stanley and, subsequently, joined Argyle Street Management, a spin-off from Goldman Sachs Asian Special Situations Group. With the world emerging from the financial crisis, Jun worked on a variety of complex private deals in direct lending and distressed debt. After that, he joined the founding team of Myriad Asset Management, focused on credit and equity, including special situations and risk arbitrage. In time, Jun missed the close rapport he had formed earlier with the principals of private portfolio companies and working collaboratively to grow their businesses. In a constantly changing business environment, Jun values long-term relationships and continuous engagement with management, seeing them as critical to access timely informational flow of business fundamentals. He saw an opportunity to partner early with talented technology pioneers, serving as a trusted advisor to help them navigate through financial markets and capital alternatives. In 2016, Jun returned to the United States and launched Crescent Cove out of a small San Francisco Bay Area apartment, with $12 million in seed capital and a focus on the lower middle-market TMT sector. Soon, Jun began structuring creative financings for ambitious executives and fast-growing emerging businesses. Since then, Crescent Cove has grown steadily, raised multiple new funds, and completed several notable investments and exits. One of the Crescent Cove’s most significant exits occurred in 2020 when a portfolio investment, Luminar Technologies, went public; Crescent Cove was one of Luminar’s earliest, largest and most steadfast investors. In June, Jun was appointed as an independent director to Luminar’s board, and he continues to work closely with founder and CEO Austin Russell. In 2022, Jun was appointed as an independent director to the board of ECARX. Jun resides today in San Francisco with his wife, son and daughter. He is an avid Manchester United football fan and supports a variety of University of Michigan causes.
