Walid started his career in the early 1990s at Gemini Consulting, working on the operational restructuring of large US multinationals emerging out of the 1990 recession. In the mid-1990s, he left Gemini to establish his own technology businesses, including one of the leading ISPs in the Middle East which was then sold to a large telecom group. He also took the lead in acquiring and turning around a glass container manufacturer. He then joined JP Morgan's TMT corporate finance group in London, working on mergers & acquisitions, disposals, debt and equity placements, debt restructuring mandates, as well as IPOs. In 2002, he joined Lago Partners, a technology based venture capital fund targeting US and European technology companies where he led four investments. In 2004, he set up Core Capital Partners LLP to target the UK lower mid-market. He has particular experience of investing in service-led, telecoms and IT businesses. Walid has a BSc in Mechanical Engineering, a BSc in Finance and an MSc degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
